Video capsule endoscopy is a powerful tool for the visualization of the small bowel and the detection of abnormalities, including Crohns disease, bleeding ulcers, blood vessel malformations, and tumors. This test can be a useful adjunct in the evaluation of iron deficiency anemia, occult gastrointestinal bleeding, malabsorption, chronic diarrhea, and weight loss. An 11 mm x 26 mm pill with camera is ingested and captures images over an eight hour recording time during passage through the small intestine.
